Synopsis

The book is a useful instrument for introducing students to world history. In this sixth edition, a number of new illustrations and maps have been added, and the bibliographies have been reorganized by topic and revised. The chronologies and maps have been fine-tuned to help the reader locate in time and space the multitude of individuals and place names that appear in the book. To keep up with the ever-growing body of historical scholarship, new or revised material has been added throughout the book on many topics.
